Studio Policies

At Adagio Dance Company, each and every dancer is an important member of our studio. We believe dancers should be taught in a safe, nurturing, and positive environment. Below you will find important information regarding our studio and policies and procedures. Please take a moment to carefully review the information with your dancer.

Class Etiquette

•  No food or drink in the dance room/on the marley, besides water.

•  No snacking during class time. If your dancer is at the studio for several hours, a break will be given for snacks in between classes.

•  Cell phones are not to be used in class and should be turned off or on mute.

•  Profanity, unsportsmanlike conduct, and or gossip will not be tolerated. Positive energy only!

•  Keep hands off the mirrors.

•  Do not hang on the ballet barres.

•  Do not wear street shoes on marley floors. Hip-Hop classes require tennis-shoes, and each dancer taking hip-hop should have a pair of clean shoes only to be worn at the studio indoors.

•  Students and parents will conduct themselves in an appropriate manner while at Adagio Dance Company and at all performances and events in which Adagio is being represented. Proper respect for instructors is expected of all students, parents/guardians and siblings.

•  Bring a positive attitude to class. Attitudes that are disrespectful, uncooperative, or aggressive do not have a place at Adagio.

•  Students will not speak negatively about one another or the teachers.

•  Any parent/guardian or student who disrupts class or approaches a teacher, another student or parent with the intent to cause dissent or contravene the policies and procedures of Adagio Dance Company will be dismissed immediately.

•  Any inappropriate or slanderous remarks about Adagio Dance Company on any social media site will be cause for immediate dismissal from the studio.

•  Always use strong arms, stretched feet, proper body alignment and 100% of your energies during class.

• Always take corrections with a positive attitude and strive to do your best.

•  And remember to smile, learn, and have fun in each class!

Attendance/Absences

•  Students are expected to be in class each and every week. Absences or tardiness can have a negative effect on the entire class.

•  Make sure you notify the teacher in case of an absence.

•  If a student is absent from class they are responsible for learning the steps taught in the lesson missed.

•  If attendance becomes a problem the student's participation in the show will be discussed with a possibility of not being able to perform.

Competition Attendance:

Regular and on time attendance is required and extremely important for the duration of the entire season. We understand things come up and are understanding to each situation if it is not done in an excessive manner. We have a yearly calendar that maps the year out for everyone, which will have scheduled time off during the year for holidays and vacations.

More than 2 absences a month on a consistent basis may result in removal from competition program. Excused Absence are absences for illness; medical, dental, or optometric appointments, attendance at a funeral service for a family member. It is the instructors discretion on when excused absences will be granted, illness does not guarantee absences will be excused; especially if dancers have missed more than two times in that month. Unexcused absences are absences for any reason other than those listed as an excused absence. Other special occasions or school performances may be excused at Marlee’s discretion, and are not considered excused by simply letting the front desk know that your dancer will be absent.

Tardiness

Later than 15 mins for a one-hour class will be considered a half absence.

Later than 5 mins for a half-hour class will be considered a half absence.

Later than 10 mins for a 45-min class will be considered a half absence.

We ask that dancers do not come to class sick. We also ask that competition dancers stay safe and healthy during the season and practice healthy habits to ensure they will remain healthy. The occasional cold or flu is inevitable, but sickness every month will not be excused if we notice there is a pattern of absences due to illness.

Dress Code

 ALL STYLES:

Hair: Students should wear their hair tightly secured and styled away from the face – ponytails, buns, braids, etc.

Clothes: Dancers need to wear clothing they can move comfortably in that fits properly. Clothing should not be too small, or too oversized.

Shoes: Dancers should never wear their dance shoes outside, not only does this wear out their shoes faster, it also brings excess dirt into the studio which damages the marley floors and is unsanitary.

Ballet Pink, black or flesh tone leotards. Black, flesh tone or ballet pink transition style tights. MUST BE TRANSITION TIGHTS (hole on bottom to get foot out)

  • Ballet Shoes: Pink or Flesh tone, split or full sole (will remove shoes and tights from feet only for lyrical)

  • Boys: White tee. Black ballet shoes, black socks optional.

PROHIBITED CLASS ATTRIE:

  • Extremely oversized clothing. Oversized clothing hides dancers alignment making corrections impossible/enables poor technique. This will not be allowed in any class EXCEPT hip-hop.

  • Incorrect shoe type for a given style. Example: jazz or lyrical shoes may not be worn in ballet class and tennis-shoes may not be worn for tap.

  • Jeans.

  • Hooded sweatshirts (except hip-hop).

  • Necklaces or other dangling jewelry.

Class Observation

We appreciate our dance families and their support, but we ask parents to view their student’s progress from the lobby only during parent observation week, which will be the first week of the month, every month. Sometimes students feel additional pressure and stress when trying to please a parent. It is important for all students to remain focused while in the classroom.

No visitors are permitted in the dance room during class time.

Lost and Found

Please mark all dancewear, shoes, and personal items with your child’s name. We will make every effort to locate and return lost items; however, we cannot be responsible for any items that your child brings to class.
